Uses a computer-aided dispatch system, receive emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical or other emergency services.
Determine the nature and location of the emergency; determine priorities, and dispatch police, fire ambulance or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures.
Receive and process 911 emergency calls, maintain contact with all units on assignment, maintain status and location of police and fire units.
Monitor direct emergency alarms, answer non-emergency calls for assistance. Enter, update and retrieve information from a variety of computer systems.
Monitor several complex public safety radio frequencies. Operate a variety of communications equipment, including radio consoles, telephones and computer systems.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES :
Emergency communication system dispatcher, receives emergency calls (police, fire, medical, hazmat, rescue, etc.) via telephone, TDD, radio, fire alarm system, computerized alarm system and face-to-face.
Dispatches firefighting apparatus, ambulances, rescue equip. first aid services, & police to situations within camp boundaries.
Operates radio equipment in accordance with Federal Communication Commission (FCC) regulations / local emergency procedures.
Maintains logs of calls.
Answers / screens all 911 emergency calls / personal telephone inquiries.
Performs routine administrative / clerical duties.
Maintains office files, compiles statistical data reports, charts, etc.
Receives, sorts, routes incoming mail / correspondence and distributes.
Uses standard computer programs / procedures to input or retrieve data.
