The apprenticeship of a cook lasts three years and takes place in different businesses of the catering industry. These might be hotels, restaurants, catering services, canteens, cruise line or in large-scale catering establishments.
Fields of activities are creating menu cards, preparing dishes and handle the food. It is also required to be able to calculate dishes w hen buying the food.
Nowadays it gets more and more important to be able to handle all modern equipment and to have good knowledge about balanced nutrition and hygiene.
A cook needs to be creative and should be able to work in a team.
After their apprenticeship they can earn some experience as Commis de Cuisine before they strive for a position as Executive Chef or F&B Manager.
s have good employment prospects. They can become Commis de Cuisine, Director of the Kitchen or F&B-Manager.
