Safety Specialist is responsible for monitoring andproviding technical support to an assigned area of the program.Specialist will evaluate work sites to ensureoperations are in compliance with Federal, State, and local requirements,provide technical support to area supervisors / managers in corrective actionsfor compliance deficiencies, conduct observations, conduct program evaluations,and perform root cause analysis (RCA).
Specialist will develop training packages and instruct trainingpackages.Specialist will be required tooperate monitoring equipment and conduct specialized testing of physical,chemical, and environmental stressors.
Specialistwill write technical reports and will interact with the middle management team.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES :
Conducts compliance evaluations, root cause analysis, riskassessments, and hazard analysis, evaluation of incidents or existing / new / modifiedprocesses.
Inspects and test work areas forpotential physical, chemical, and environmental stressors to ensure safety andhealth non-compliance issues are documented and reports findings to workplaceleaders.
updates ESH data bases.
Recommendsabatement actions for identified deficiencies; monitors corrective action andtracks task to completion.
Observes complianceduring workplace inspections; documents behavior traits during audits.
Develops a variety oftraining lesson plans; presents environmental, safety and health training;presents orientation training.
Recommends PPE to beused in the workplace, trains employees in the use care and maintenance of PPE;monitors the workplace for compliance.
Implementshazardous material and hazardous waste programs in industrial areas.
keeps work area / equipmentclean and orderly.
Performs other duties and assignmentsas required.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED :
Laptop and desktop computersystems, projector and audio equipment, safety inspection measurement tools,and system testing equipment.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT :
Job assignments will involve work in and out-of-doors withexposure to extreme climatic conditionsincluding frequent dust storms, and high temperatures.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES :
torso; respiratory; vision,and hearing protection.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education / Certifications : One year related experience may be substituted forone year of education, if degree is required.
Prefer : Associates degree in environmental, safety, health, or related discipline.Or, combination advanced education and fouryears’ experience.
knowledgeable in DOD, Army, EPA, and Federal regulations.Military background and training isbeneficial.
Outlook, Word, Excel, andPowerPoint. Must have a strong ability to work independently.
