Under the supervision of theappropriate Supervisor, Welder performs journeyman level Arc, Tig, Mig, &Oxygen / Acetylene welding, Brazing, Oxygen & Acetylene cutting, Carbon-arccutting / gouging, Plasma Arc cutting on a wide array of military vehicles &customer requested metal fabrications IAW Army Technical manuals & AWSWelding Code requirements as needed.
Also inspects welding qualificationcoupons to ensure quality standards are adhered to.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES :
OverseesAN / FN Welders performing Shop / Field Journeyman SMAW, GMAW, GTAW Welding &Metal Fabrications, ensures the work performed is IAW applicable ArmyRegulations, Technical Manual & Industry Standards.
Performsjourneyman level welding / cutting & metal fabrications in the Allied TradesWelding shop & Field support welding / fabrication / repairs as required.
Reads blueprints, sketches and modificationorders to plan the process and layout to be performed in an expeditious, economicaland effective manner.
Fabricatesmetal products per technical drawings or customer provided samples bywelding / cutting / fabricating various metals.
Assistsin coaching subordinate welders in ensuring all current Internal OperatingProcedures (IOP) and quality regulations are complied with.
Responsiblefor the Welding Testing / Qualification process and test plate inspections forassigned AN / FN Welding personnel and in ensuring that the current internalwelding qualification program is maintained and up to date.
Repairs a wide array of military equipmentutilizing welding techniques and appropriate welding equipment.
UtilizesOxygen / Acetylene, Carbon Arc, Plasma cutting equipment to dismantle assembliesand to cut material to size and shape.
Perform Demil operations as required.
Operate / maintainelectric hand / pneumatic power tools, i.e. grinders, sanders, needle guns,drills, saws, metal shears & shop supported fabrication equipment.
Operate / maintain GFE : i.e. contact truck,portable welding equipment, air compressors, and forklifts.
Responsible for observing allcurrent ES&H and fire regulations. Maintains a safe work area by setting upappropriate welding screens, warning devices, and proper vehicle / equipmentplacement.
Prepares necessary paperworkshowing labor and supplies used for job order.
Performs other duties andassignments as required.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED :
1.Welding equipment of all types includingMIG, TIG, ARC and gas.
2. Automotive automated and hand tools, steamcleaning equipment, material handling equipment, hydraulic press, iron worker, metalshear, metal bender, drills electrical and pneumatic.
3.Military wheeled vehicles and non-tactical vehicles.
4.Automated data processing equipment toinclude computer, printer, and other general office equipment outfitted with MSOffice software.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT :
Primary work location is Camp Arifjanbut may have operational responsibilities at additional locations within theASG-KU area of responsibility.
Activities will be generally conducted in a shopenvironment however; duties will also involve working outside with potentialexposure to extreme climatic conditions.
Work is required in areas wherepotential exists for exposure to extreme ambient temperatures.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES :
Work will require lifting up to50 lbs, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and workingwith or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical,chemical or biological agents.
Employee use of personal protective equipment(PPE) is required in certain areas. Such PPE includes but is not limited tohead, foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education / Certifications : One year related experience may be substituted forone year of education, if degree is required.
HighSchool graduate or equivalent.
RequiresMOS or civilian trade qualification in US Army MOS Metal Worker or USMC, USAF,USN equivalent.
RequiresAWS CWI certification.
Avalid US Driver’s License and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government MotorVehicle Operator’s License and Kuwait Driver’s License are required.
Aminimum of five (5) years’ experience in Weld Shop operations or equivalentcombination of education and experience is required.
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience inwelding inspection is required.
1.Must be able to pass & maintain AWS Welding Code Certifications as required.
