POSITION SUMMARY : Transmission Engineer-s area of expertise shall be centered on an in-depth knowledge of satellite and communications equipment assessment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
Supports the Government with the overall management of the theater Enterprise transport layer (long haul) communications systems, i.
e., microwave, multiplexer (Promina / ATM) and circuit / cable backbone for the 160th AOR. The Transmission Engineer serves as a subject matter expert (SME) for all MUX based equipment within the AOR and have an in-
depth knowledge of various types of MUX equipment. Responsible to balance traffic load in order to obtain high network utilization and avoid congestion through traffic shaping, congestion control, bandwidth allocation and flow control.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES : 1. Perform satellite assessment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. 2. Operates and troubleshoots Communications Security (COMSEC) equipment (i.
e., KG-95, KIV-7, KIV-19, KG-175) and provides operational assessments of networks. 3. Provides diagnosis and recommends solutions to ensure all hardware and network related problems are resolved.
4. Works with the engineers from the 160th Signal Brigade, theater signal command, and DISA to engineer new circuit requirements and manipulate the existing circuit environment to ensure the most efficient use of our communications resources and maintain accurate theater and regional level transport diagrams as well as site level rack elevations for all transport equipment.
5. Conduct radar set assessment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair. 6. Assesses UHF, VHF, HF, and microwave Radio systems, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair 7.
Be proficient in the operations, setup and configuration of each system and be capable of performing repairs down to the Lowest Replaceable Unit, i.
e., circuit cards, wiring harnesses, or mounted components 8. Provides analysis of maintenance failures, research trends and causes of failures, and recommend solutions to avert future failures.
9. Provide hardware and software expertise and resolve problems at field locations 10. Have working knowledge of basic electronics, including analog and digital logic, multiplexing, modulation techniques 11.
Be proficient in use of specialized test, measurement and diagnostic equipment, (TMDE) (i.e., power meters, oscilloscopes, digital data analyzers, transmission test sets, frequency counters, and signal generators) as well as design tools for troubleshooting, identifying and repairing equipment 12.
Be able to operate and troubleshoot COMSEC equipment (i.e., KG-95, KIV-7, KIV-19, KG-175) and provide operational assessments of satellite equipment and network 13.
Update and consolidate network diagrams for the SWA theatre using MS Visio
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Education / Certifications One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required Education : Bachelors Degree in IT or Telecommunications field preferred.
Experience : At least 3-5 years of practical experience working with various type of switching technology. Thorough knowledge of typical maintenance failures, clear understanding of how to research trends and causes of failures and recommend solutions to avert future failures.
Experience with MUX technology. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
