EnvironmentalSpecialists assists in developing / improving Environmental Programs. Will be assisting with the implementation of hazardousmaterial and hazardous waste programs in industrial areas, inspecting workareas for potential environmental hazards or non-compliances and recommendingabatement actions for identified environmental deficiencies, testing water andwastewater, and partaking in the collection of recyclable commodities insupport of a Qualified Recycling Program.
Note, the Environmental Specialistwill be assigned to support one of the areas listed below.
MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES :
Monitorsuse of Environmental Management practices in the workplace.
Observesenvironmental compliance during workplace visits.
Updatesrelative data bases and reports.
Testdrinking water and wastewater for adherence to USG and Host Nation standards.
Collectsrecyclable commodities in support of a Qualified Recycling Program (QRP).
Assistwith the Free-Issue of Hazardous Materials and Recyclable Commodities.
Receivesand stores hazardous waste in accordance with EPA and DOT regulations.
Participatesin all Quality and Safety related programs as directed.
Develops environmental traininglesson plans; presents environmental, safety and health training.
Presents environmental portion ofnewcomer’s orientation training.
Participates in EnvironmentalWorking Groups.
Sets a good example to theworkforce by following all ESH regulations, policies, procedures and practices.
Keeps work area and equipmentclean and orderly.
Other duties or assignments asrequired.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENTDIRECTLY USED :
Personalcomputer, printers, calculator, copy machines, scanners, FAX machines, phones,and other general office equipment.
Operates non-tactical vehicles as required.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT :
Jobassignments will involve the conduct of work in and out-of-doors areas withexposure to extreme climatic conditions. May work in areas where a potentialexists for exposure to physical, chemical, and biological agents.
Duties willinvolve the conduct of work in the outdoors with a potential exposure toextreme climatic conditions including frequent dust storms, and hightemperatures up to 130 degrees in the summer months.
Employee use of PersonalProtective Equipment (PPE) in certain areas is required.Such PPE includes but is not limited to head,foot, hand, torso, respiratory, vision and hearing protective devices.
Must comply with all fire, safety and postpolicies.Job may require overnighttravel and may be located in areas considered high risk according to theDepartment of State.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES :
Workrequires regular and recurring physical exertion related to frequentinspections and site visits, to include standing, walking, bending, or climbing.
While performing duties of this job, will require lifting up to 35 lbs.;stooping; climbing; prolonged standing; prolonged sitting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education / Certifications : One-year related experience may be substituted forone year of education, if degree is required.
High School + a minimum 6 years of environmental workexperience OR an associate degree with 2-3 years of environmental workexperience.
Additionally, a military background and working knowledge of; USArmy environmental regulations, safety and health regulations, andenvironmental guidance documents are beneficial.
College level environmental related coursespreferred.
Certification : 40-hour or 24-hour HAZWOPERcertification is desirable.
MUSTBE FULENT AND LITERATE IN ENGLISHat a level to the extent of reading and understanding written orders, traininginstructions and manuals, composing reports, conveying complete information andconversing with US Military (Army) and contracting personnel.
Experience as an environmentaltechnician, safety specialist, environmental auditor or hazardous waste specialist.
Ableto follow written work instructions and interpret ISO 14001 : 2015 (EnvironmentalManagement Systems) protocols.
Excellentcommunication and writing skills are also required along with a workingknowledge of computer operations to include spreadsheet, database, wordprocessing and presentation applications.
Must have strong ability to work independently.
